ON-GOING PROJECTS – INHOUSE
1. MANGROVE MAPPING AND CHANGE DETECTION ANALYSIS ALONG ANDHRA PRADESH COAST
Sponsored by: Government of Andhra Pradesh/ APSRAC
Objective: Mangrove swamps protect coastal areas from erosion, storm surge (especially during hurricanes) and tsunamis. The mangroves' massive root systems are efficient at dissipating wave energy. Because of the uniqueness of mangrove ecosystems and the protection against erosion they provide, they are often the object of conservation programs. This Project involves mapping the mangrove status for last 35 years (1975-2012) with an interval of about 10 years,to map the mangrove extent (areal extent), densities and plantation of mangrove using High Resolution satellite data, determine the condition, trend, nature, rate, location and magnitude of mangrove cover change.
Output: Identification of area of positive and negative changes Relationship to the possible causes of damages of mangrove and remedial actions
Scale: 1:10,000

2. EROSION MONITORING AND SHORELINE CHANGES INCLUDING THE EVENT BASED DAMAGES ALONG ANDHRA PRADESH COAST
Sponsored by: Government of Andhra Pradesh/ APSRAC
Objective: Shoreline monitoring and shoreline change analysis program will help to guide coastal-erosion and storm-hazard-mitigation projects along Andhra Pradesh coast. Therefore the project is designed for mapping the shoreline spanning the last 27 years (1985-2012) for assessing the changes, determining the areas suffering from significant erosion and quantifying the rate of erosion and accretion along with. This will facilitate demarcation of active erosion prone areas along the AP coastline which in turn assist in adopting proper mitigation measures to prevent threats on human establishments along the coast.
Output: Detailed analysis of the hotspots
Scale: 1:10,000

3. COASTAL DRAINAGE CONGESTION ALONG ANDHRA PRADESH COAST
Sponsored by: Government of Andhra Pradesh/ APSRAC
Objective: The aim of the project is to identify the drainage congestion areas caused by floods or cyclones in coastal districts and along major coastal rivers, identify the water logging and/or chock points. This will assist in generating early warnings for potential flood prone areas in case of heavy rainfall as well facilitate reclamation of water logged lands.
Output: Detailed analysis of the flood prone areas.
Scale: 1:10,000

4. COASTAL REGULATORY ZONE MAPPING OF ANDHRA PRADESH
Sponsored by: Government of Andhra Pradesh/ APSRAC
Objective: Coastal zones over the world are under increasing stress due to development of industries, tourism and resultant of human population growth and migration with deteriorating water quality as well. The coast along Andhra Pradesh state is no exception of the same. The goal of this assignment is to map the CRZ as per the 2011 notification by the government of India to ensure sustainable development of coastal stretches and marine environment by creating accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive scientific databases on habitats, protected areas, water quality, and environmental indicators and to carry out periodic assessment of health for the system. The database will be useful for different ministers and departments like Environment and Forest, Science and Technology, Disaster Management Authority, Integrated coastal Zone Management Authority etc.
Output: Accurate and comprehensive database creation on layers in coastal environment.
Scale: 1:10,000
